Mandeli is a tiny fish that people love to fry. It is mostly found near the sea, and it is shiny and cute. In my house, we all get very happy when we see Mandeli in the fish shop. That means it is time to eat crispy fish fry!
This dish is very close to my heart. It reminds me of Sunday lunches with my family. We would all sit together, talking and laughing, while eating hot, crispy fish with rice and dal. Even my grandma loved it and said, “It is so nice and crunchy!”
The best part? Mandeli Fish Fry is super easy to make. If you are just learning to cook, this is a perfect recipe to start with. You only need to clean the fish and rub it with some simple spices like salt, turmeric, and red chili powder. Then you roll it in a little rice flour or semolina. This makes the fish very crispy when you fry it.
When you put the fish in hot oil, it starts to sizzle. The outside becomes golden and crunchy, while the inside stays soft and tasty. You can even hear the crunch when you take a bite. It is so yummy that you will want to eat more and more.
Mandeli Fish Fry tastes very good with rice and dal. Some people like to squeeze a little lemon on top to make it tangy. You can also eat it just like that, as a snack. It is so simple, but it makes everyone so happy.
For me, this is not just food. It is a memory of good times at home, sitting with my family, enjoying every crispy bite. Sharing this dish with you feels very special. I hope you try Mandeli Fish Fry soon. It is crispy, tasty, and very easy — even if you are just starting to cook.
So go ahead, make this crunchy fish, and share it with someone you love. You will see big smiles all around.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Clean the fish: Wash the mandeli thoroughly. Remove the head if desired, and pat dry using a kitchen towel.
Step 2
Marinate: In a bowl, add the cleaned fish, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste, salt, and lemon juice. Mix gently until the fish is well coated. Let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.
Step 3
Coating: Spread rice flour and fine rava on a plate. Coat each fish evenly on both sides. This gives the fish a crispy texture when fried.
Step 4
Frying: Heat oil in a flat pan over medium flame. Once hot, gently place the fish in the pan. Fry until golden and crispy on one side, then flip and cook the other side. Be gentle while flipping to avoid breaking the fish.
Step 5
Serve: Remove the fried fish on absorbent paper. Serve hot with lemon wedges and onion rings. Enjoy it as a starter or with dal-chawal for a satisfying coastal meal.
